What is Platform as a Service?
Platform as a Service (PaaS) is a cloud service model that provides a complete stack of development and deployment resources as a single integrated cloud service. These resources are hosted on a cloud and allow business enterprises to build and deliver both simple and sophisticated applications. The PaaS model aims to eliminate the different costs and complexities involved in building and maintaining the infrastructure for developing, running, and managing applications. PaaS is one of the three main types of cloud services. The other two service models are Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS).
Points to Remember
- Platform as a Service can be considered an extension to the IaaS. Besides servers, storage, networking and other infrastructure components, PaaS also consists of development tools, database management systems, middleware, and business intelligence services.
- It is designed to assist enterprises with the various phases of the entire lifecycle of applications, such as development, testing, deployment, management and updation.
